English Proficiency For Business (Basic)

INTRODUCTION

The importance of being able to communicate in English at the workplace has become critical in the 21st century. Because of globalization and an influx of foreign labour, employers now see the need for all employees including those at the shop floor level to be able to understand basic instructions and to get their message across, both in the spoken and written forms.

Hence this module has been together to empower the non-executives who has little knowledge of English to be able to attain an elementary level fluency in English.

OBJECTIVES
  • To enable participants to express themselves coherently in English and respond to queries in the workplace.
  • To enable participants to write simple messages and instructions for colleagues and supervisors and respond to written texts in an appropriate manner.
METHODOLOGY

The module is highly interactive with pair and group work. There will be much opportunity for speaking. Video recording is used for effective feedback. There will be a manual given to each participant.

Each unit is a comprehensive package of the four communication skills of English. They are speaking, listening, reading (related texts) and writing. Furthermore grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation inputs will be included in every unit. The course is divided into 16 units. There will be a placement assessment before the course commences.

The course outline will be fine tuned once the participants’ profiles are established.
