270 Degree Performance Appraisal

INTRODUCTION

Performance management is an ongoing process that provides feedback, accountability, and documentation for performance outcomes to ensure that employees, teams, and departments are meeting strategic organizational goals. Annual appraisal is part of the process and was traditionally done between the superior and employee, one on one. This appraisal approach later evolved into 180 degree, where self-appraisal is included, followed by 270 degree where all key employees surrounding the employee namely the superior, peers and external parties also participated in the appraisal evaluation. The objective is to reduced biasness that might exist in one to one appraisal, and also to provide greater insights on development areas of the employees.
